Chapter 32: The Final March and the Final Hall of Fame

Goodshow sends you home to rest. While you rest, Team Rocket launches an all-out war: it attacks the Goldenrod Radio Tower and then Pokémon League HQ. As the Hero Champion you broadcast a call to arms from the Radio Tower and then march on the Indigo Plateau through Victory Road, the plateau slope and the Elite Four’s rooms, now held by Team Rocket Executives, to Giovanni in the Hall of Fame. Your final Hall of Fame entry ends the story. Everything after it is postgame.

Main quest in this chapter: broadcast from the Radio Tower, fight through Victory Road (Blue’s fake, your companions), win the Multi Battle with Mewtwo’s help, beat the four Elite Four rooms, Archer and Ariana, and then Giovanni’s three battles in a row.

Things you can still lose here: every romance confession (one per game), Mewtwo (take it before the Elite Four), and the Six Island chief’s trial (Chapter 31). All of these close with the final Hall of Fame entry. There is no healing inside the Elite Four’s rooms.

Home and the Radio Tower. Goodshow tells you to go home and rest while Team Rocket has not yet launched its all-out war. Rest at home in Pallet Town; then Team Rocket attacks the Radio Tower in Goldenrod City and League HQ. Go to the Observation Deck at the top of the Radio Tower: the director lets you broadcast live to the whole region, a call to arms that has the Gym Leaders ship supplies to Goldenrod and Saffron. The broadcast switches on the Victory Road scenes, and it also opens Misty’s confession in the Cerulean Gym for male players (she asks why you are not at the Indigo Plateau).

Victory Road. On 1F Blue is stuck in a stalemate against a Team Rocket fake of himself, and you must say which Blue is real. “The right one is the real Blue” is correct; the wrong answer cannot be undone, makes you fight the real Blue as well and closes Blue’s romance route for female players. Your companions fight Team Rocket on Victory Road and stay behind to heal: talk again only to the partner you chose to get a confession (one per game). On 3F, after the barrier at the gate is broken, Silver and Crystal have two more scenes, and the side that lost the Vermilion construction-site dispute (Chapter 5) comes back there.

The Victory Road objects wait for flag 2311 to be cleared by the Radio Tower broadcast (guide/01 q-0021 Source).

The Indigo Plateau slope and Mewtwo. At the top of Victory Road Cyrus and Charon raise a spatial barrier. Mewtwo breaks Palkia’s barrier and you win a Multi Battle at its side. Afterwards Mewtwo waits in the middle of the path, about 28 steps north of the Victory Road exit, and says: “Once you have sorted out your team… come find me here.” Take it before you enter the Elite Four (it closes for good). About nine steps north of Mewtwo, Steven (female players) and Cynthia (male players) rest by the path: talk to your chosen partner for a confession if the romance route is on and nobody else has been confessed to.

The Elite Four’s rooms under Team Rocket. Once you go through the Elite Four door you cannot come back and the attendants cannot heal you; a Rocket nurse in the entrance hall heals your party for $10,000 a time. In each of the four rooms two Executives wait (Archie and Charon in Lorelei’s, Maxie and Cyrus in Agatha’s, Proton and Petrel in Bruno’s, the Marauder and Lawrence in Lance’s): fight them one after the other or as a Double Battle. Then Archer and Ariana in a Double Battle.

Giovanni and the final Hall of Fame. In the Hall of Fame Giovanni waits with three battles in a row: a single battle (Arceus, Dialga, Nidoking, Empoleon and more), a Double Battle against Giovanni and his Cerulean Cave double (Mewtwo, Rhydon, Tyranitar, Arcanine and more), and finally a single battle against a lone Lv. 100 Beedrill. Your final entry into the Hall of Fame ends the story and closes for good the Six Island chief’s trial, Mewtwo, and every confession scene (Victory Road, the plateau slope, Victory Road 3F and Misty’s). Cerulean Gym / Cerulean Cape: Misty’s romance

Section titled “Cerulean Gym / Cerulean Cape: Misty’s romance”

Cerulean City Side quest Missable

A mixed entry: the confession (male players, Cerulean Gym, after the broadcast) closes at the final Hall of Fame; Misty's dates are postgame.

Continues the Pallet Town to Pewter City romance entry. For how the romance works as a whole (love reading, Dream World, locks), see the central romance entry.

Confession: male players only, in the final chapter: after you’re Champion and have made your live broadcast at the Goldenrod Radio Tower, and before your final Hall of Fame entry. You also need the Goldenrod fortune-teller’s love reading, and you must not have answered No to “Comfort Misty?” on Route 3 (or must have reopened her route with the Six Island wish). Talk to Misty in the Cerulean Gym. She asks “aren’t you supposed to be off fighting at the Indigo Plateau?” and the confession follows (this uses up your one confession; your party is healed). Missable: after the final Hall of Fame she only offers practice battles.

Dates: after your final Hall of Fame entry, talk to Misty in the Gym. Her menu (“Let’s go somewhere together”, “I want to battle you”, “I’m busy. See you later”) moves your dates along the same way Yellow’s does. Warning: winning her Resort Zone date leaves her missing from the Gym, so her later dates stall; save before it (known issue; tested in an emulator).

Cape photo: the first date takes you to the tip of Cerulean Cape, about 15 steps east and 2 steps south of the Sea Cottage door, where Misty asks for a photo. Say yes for the photo and the longer hug scene.

Date progress var 0x40b5. Photo spot ≈1422,40. The Route 25 map script also has a photo for players who didn’t confess (after the final Hall of Fame, script 41 → L7584), but its show check at L8294 hides Misty when ScrCmd_522 (the hour, as in file 172’s password hour check) ≠ 14 and again when it ≠ 15. No value passes both, so she can never appear for it, whatever the command returns (suspected hack bug).

Victory Road: “Which one is the real Blue?”

Section titled “Victory Road: “Which one is the real Blue?””

Victory Road Main quest

One chance: the wrong answer cannot be undone. The real Blue's team is Lv. 96-97.

Where: Victory Road 1F, during the final Team Rocket chapter. Blue is stuck in a stalemate against a Team Rocket fake of himself.

How it works: you are asked which Blue is real.

Warning: the wrong answer can’t be undone. It makes you fight the real Blue as well, and for female players it closes Blue’s romance route.

  • “The right one is the real Blue” is correct. You fight only the impostor (Blue’s team: Blastoise Lv. 97, Arcanine Lv. 96…) and Blue thanks you.
  • “The left one…” is wrong. You attack the real Blue first (Umbreon Lv. 96, Pidgeot Lv. 97…) and then the impostor. Blue ends up angry, and for female players Blue’s romance route closes.
Technical source (script files and flags)

Romance route: Victory Road confessions, Yellow’s dates and your house

Section titled “Romance route: Victory Road confessions, Yellow’s dates and your house”

Side quest Missable

A mixed entry: confessions on Victory Road close at the final Hall of Fame; Yellow's dates and your house are postgame.

This entry covers only the steps that happen on this page’s maps (Victory Road, Viridian City and your house). How the route is switched on, how your one partner is chosen in the Dream World and what locks a partner out are explained in the central romance entry.

1. Confession (Victory Road, final chapter, before your final Hall of Fame entry): after each companion’s fight, they stay behind to heal. Talk to them again and you get a confession scene if three things are true: the romance route is on, they haven’t been locked out, and you haven’t confessed to anyone yet. The scene heals your party, except Gold’s.

Warning: you get one confession per game. Talking to the wrong companion first uses it up, so only talk to your chosen partner again after their fight.

Where Partner Player gender
1F, north-west part, about a dozen steps south of the stairs up to 2F Yellow male
1F, middle of the east side (where Blue stands with his Blastoise), after the “real Blue” choice Blue female; needs the correct choice (see above)
2F, west side, a short way east of the stairs down to 1F Green / Red either (Green for male, Red for female)
2F, east side, a few steps east of the stairs up to 3F Gold female

Misty (Cerulean Gym), Steven and Cynthia (Indigo Plateau slope), and Silver and Crystal (Victory Road 3F) have their own confession scenes. Each one uses up your one confession.

2. Yellow’s dates (Viridian City, after your final Hall of Fame entry): Yellow waits just south of the Mart. She only offers dates if you have made your final Hall of Fame entry, have confessed to someone, and haven’t locked her out. Otherwise she just says she’s an Ace Trainer now. Menu:

  • Let’s have a battle: Singles or Doubles against Yellow (Pikachu Lv. 92, Omastar Lv. 91, …). Repeatable.
  • Let’s go for a walk (date 1): a trip to the Mt. Silver summit and the hot-spring lodge. Heals your party.
  • Let’s go for a walk (date 2, after date 1): a trip to the Resort Zone with four Multi Battles in a row at Yellow’s side. Your party is healed before the first and after the last, not between them. Losing means a white-out and you replay the date.
  • I want you to meet my mom (after date 2): she comes to Pallet Town, meets Mom, and leaves Viridian for good. Because of a hack bug, this visit plays Cynthia’s version of the scene whoever your partner is: tested in an emulator with Yellow as the partner, Cynthia walks in (see Known issues).

Cynthia’s dates run the same way at the Pokémon Academy in Viridian City. Other partners have theirs in their own towns (see the central entry). Date progress is shared by all partners, so only your chosen partner’s dates count.

3. Living together (your house): after the Mom visit, your partner is meant to move into your house, with a “Rest in my room” option that costs a Mail. This step is blocked for every player in the original hack: checking the PC upstairs at that stage does nothing (tested in an emulator; see Known issues).

Notes: the dates only check that you haven’t locked your partner out and that you have confessed to someone. They don’t check that you confessed to that partner (see Known issues).

Technical source (script files and flags)

script files 109 (scripts 14, 18, 21, 24; each checks flag 1618 (route on), its partner’s lock flag and 1645, and checks the player’s gender first except script 21; scripts 14, 18 and 21 reach HealParty, script 24 (Gold) reaches none; confession spots 1F 20,17 and 43,40, 2F 16,32 and 57,37), 739 (script 40, L4140/L5395/L5333; Yellow ≈1041,261; checks flag 2261 = final Hall of Fame, set in file 822; flag 1645 = confessed; flag 2143 = Yellow excluded; date 2: HealParty @10519, MultiBattle @11662, @11800, @11963, @12101 with no heal between (each loss → L4959), next HealParty @12969), 859 (script 18, Cynthia’s dates), 736 (script 4: @165 CheckFlag 106 → L559, Cynthia’s version, before the 2143 Yellow check), 843 (script 1 L363 CheckFlag 106 → L4292 End before any partner branch; 106 is set with the starter, 738 @3946/@4080, and never cleared; hack finding D-1391; script 4, house 2F scene), 842 (scripts 12–15, “Rest in my room”: L6462 Heart Mail 143, L6707 Grass Mail 137, L6887 Bubble Mail 139, L7063 checks Snow Mail 144 but L8417 takes Bubble Mail 139). Flag 1645 is also set by files 758 (Cerulean Gym, Misty), 923 (zone 85: the Indigo Plateau slope in this hack, Steven/Cynthia) and 110 (Victory Road 3F). Date progress is var 0x40b5: date 1 sets it to 3, date 2 (at 3) to 4, the Mom visit runs at 4 (stage 5→6). Emulator (emu_harness.py guide0107 --case mom_visit,living): with Yellow as the partner and flag 106 set as every save has it, 739 L10063 → zone 504 scene shows lines 442#58–62 and object 7 (Cynthia); with 106 cleared the same run shows Yellow (object 4, lines 25–31). At var 0x40b5 = 6 the 2F PC (with the Cascade Badge) shows nothing and the player can walk on; with 106 cleared it starts the love-letter scene (537#22–24).

Victory Road 3F (final chapter): Silver’s and Crystal’s confessions

Section titled “Victory Road 3F (final chapter): Silver’s and Crystal’s confessions”

Victory Road Side quest Missable

One confession per game: only talk to your chosen partner.

Where: Victory Road 3F, during the final march on Team Rocket (after the barrier at the gate is broken).

How it works: 3F has two companion scenes. Talk to the companion again afterwards and you get a confession if you’ve unlocked the romance (any finished love reading from the Goldenrod fortune-teller), that partner isn’t closed off, and you haven’t confessed to anyone yet. The confession heals your party and uses up your one confession. What closes each partner off is listed in the central romance entry.

Where Scene first Partner Player
east side of 3F a Multi Battle with Silver against Giovanni’s Arceus clone (Giovanni: Arceus Lv. 100, Golem, Garchomp, Gliscor) and a second, unnamed opponent (Nidoqueen, Steelix, Aggron, Whiscash, Lv. 100) Silver (if not closed off) female
west side of 3F save Crystal and Suicune: beat Pokéfan Tanner (Lv. 81–82), then a Multi Battle at Crystal’s side against two Grunts Crystal (if not closed off) male

The Indigo Plateau slope above Victory Road has two more: Steven (female players; see the tournament entry for what closes his route) and Cynthia (male players). Notes: the confessions don’t depend on your starter. On 3F the starter only decides who the disguised Janine is during the qualifiers. After Crystal’s scene, Cassidy & Butch, then Jessie & James, block the exit (two double battles, Lv. 67–82, plus James’s Lv. 30 Meowth).

Indigo Plateau (final chapter): Mewtwo joins you (take it before the Elite Four)

Section titled “Indigo Plateau (final chapter): Mewtwo joins you (take it before the Elite Four)”

Indigo Plateau Side quest Missable

Take it before you enter the Elite Four: the final Hall of Fame removes it for good.

Where: the Indigo Plateau slope, after the spatial-barrier scene with Cyrus and Charon. Mewtwo stays in the middle of the path, about 28 steps straight north of the Victory Road exit.

Who gets it / when: final chapter, after Mewtwo breaks Palkia’s barrier and you win the Multi Battle at its side. It says “Once you have sorted out your team… come find me here.”

How it works: talk to Mewtwo → “Add Mewtwo to your party?” → Yes. You need a free slot; otherwise it waits.

Reward: Mewtwo, Lv. 95.

Notes: missable. The final Hall of Fame removes it for good, and once you walk into the Elite Four’s rooms you can’t come back out. Take it before entering.

Indigo Plateau slope (final chapter): Steven’s and Cynthia’s confessions

Section titled “Indigo Plateau slope (final chapter): Steven’s and Cynthia’s confessions”

Indigo Plateau Side quest Missable

Needs the love reading from the Goldenrod fortune-teller, no earlier confession and an open partner route.

Part of the romance route; the rules are in the central romance entry.

Where: the Indigo Plateau slope, about nine steps north of Mewtwo, where Steven (right) and Cynthia (left) rest side by side after the Mewtwo scene.

Who gets it / when: the romance must be unlocked (any finished love reading from the Goldenrod fortune-teller), you must not have confessed to anyone yet, and that partner’s route must still be open.

Partner Player Closed by
Steven female at the Indigo Conference, “Cheer for Misty” or “No, get ready for my match” (only “Cheer for Steven” keeps it open, the Indigo Conference); in the Dream World, every outcome except picking Steven, including leaving through the statue without picking anyone (see the central romance entry)
Cynthia male in the Dream World, every pick except Cynthia (see the central romance entry)

Both can be reopened once by the Island Forest wish on Six Island, unless you’ve already been to the Dream World.

How it works: talk to them. A long scene follows ending in a mutual confession. It heals your party and uses up your one confession.

Notes: otherwise they just wish you luck.

Pokémon League (final chapter): the Elite Four rooms under Team Rocket

Section titled “Pokémon League (final chapter): the Elite Four rooms under Team Rocket”

Pokémon League Main quest

There is no healing inside the Elite Four's rooms. Giovanni's last Pokémon is a Lv. 100 Beedrill.

Where: the League entrance and the Elite Four’s rooms, final chapter.

How it works:

  • No healing inside. Once you go through the Elite Four door you can’t come back, and the room attendants can’t heal you. In the entrance hall a Rocket nurse heals your party for $10,000 a time.
  • In each room two Executives wait. Each room words the choice differently, but it’s always the same two options: fight them one after the other, or one Double Battle against both. The rewards are the same.
Room Executives “One at a time” / “together” answers
Lorelei’s Archie + Charon “Let my battling do the talking” / “You losers, come at me together”
Agatha’s Maxie + Cyrus “Your space power is no big deal” / “All talk. Come at me together”
Bruno’s Proton + Petrel “One at a time, then” / “Come at me together”
Lance’s Marauder + Lawrence “Try it, if you think you can win” / “Even both of you can’t beat me”
  • Then Archer and Ariana (Double Battle), then Giovanni in the Hall of Fame, three battles in a row: a single battle (Arceus, Dialga, Nidoking, Empoleon …), a Double Battle against Giovanni and his Cerulean Cave double (Mewtwo, Rhydon, Tyranitar, Arcanine …), and finally a single battle against a lone Lv. 100 Beedrill.
