- Chapter 34: Postgame, the Legends of Johto
Chapter 34: Postgame, the Legends of Johto
The second half of the postgame is Johto’s: Prof. Hale and Molly free the three legendary beasts at the Burned Tower, Satsuki and Morty bring back Ho-Oh and Lugia, Dark Cave returns the Griseous Orb, and the Dream World’s Cresselia and Darkrai are back. All of this needs your final Hall of Fame entry and, for most of it, Lance’s visit (Chapter 33).
Main quest in this chapter: none; this is the postgame.
Do this first, it can be lost: the Burned Tower scene with Prof. Hale and Molly. Do not talk to the leader of the Mt. Mortar expedition again before you have seen it: if you say Yes to “Are you a really strong Trainer?” and beat him, the scene never plays and Entei, Raikou and Suicune never appear. Answer No to be safe.
One chance each, so save first: Raikou, Suicune, Entei, Lugia, Ho-Oh’s trainer-style fight, Cresselia and Darkrai.

Walkthrough
Section titled “Walkthrough”The Burned Tower and the three beasts. After Lance’s visit, walk into the Burned Tower basement where the Sealing Mirror stood. Prof. Hale and Molly meet Entei, Raikou and Suicune, and all three run off. This unlocks their postgame encounters: Suicune on Cerulean Cape (Route 25) in Kanto, Raikou on Route 47 at the spot where Will’s device stood, and Entei in the dream room of the Ruins of Alph. Before the scene, do not rematch the Mt. Mortar expedition leader (see above).
- Burned Tower: Prof. Hale, Molly and the three beasts (post-game; frees Entei, Suicune, Raikou) Missable Post-game
- Route 47: Raikou (after the final Hall of Fame) Missable Post-game
- Route 25: Suicune (post-game) Missable Post-game
- Ruins of Alph: small extras
Technical source (script files and flags)
guide/10 q-0292 (after the final entry and Lance’s visit; Warning: rematching the Mt. Mortar expedition leader first stops the scene), guide/12 q-0358 (Route 47 Raikou; one chance; ‘that scene can be lost if you rematch the Mt. Mortar expedition leader first’), guide/02 q-0041 (Route 25 Suicune, Lv. 90, after the Burned Tower scene), guide/08 q-0227 (the Entei note in the Ruins of Alph extras).
Rematching the Mt. Mortar leader first. If you walk into the Mt. Mortar expedition (Chapter 25) after Lance’s visit and beat its leader before the Burned Tower scene has played, the scene is lost for good and so are the three beasts. Answer No to his question.
Technical source (script files and flags)
guide/10 q-0292 Warning and guide/11 q-0322 Notes (‘Beating him in that window resets the expedition’s progress … and the scene that frees Entei, Raikou and Suicune never plays’; known issue burned-tower-beasts-scene-and-the-expedition-leader), guide/12 q-0358 Warning, guide/02 q-0041 (‘after the post-game Burned Tower scene’). UNVERIFIED: whether Suicune and Raikou are also lost; the guide says the beasts never appear.
Ho-Oh, Lugia and the Griseous Orb. In Ecruteak’s Dance Theater, Satsuki, the eldest Kimono Girl, lets you ask to see Ho-Oh or Lugia. For Ho-Oh, Morty gives you the Clear Bell after a Single Battle against his full team, then you climb the Bell Tower roof and fight Ho-Oh (Lv. 95) trainer-style before the catch. For Lugia she sends the sisters to the Whirl Islands (Lugia, one chance). In Dark Cave, the old woman by the Route 45 entrance says the League sent the Griseous Orb back: take it from the shrine in the deepest part.

guide/10 q-0291 (Satsuki, Morty’s Clear Bell, Ho-Oh Lv. 95), guide/11 q-0329 (Whirl Islands B3F, Lugia; ‘Lugia comes back for you after your final Hall of Fame entry’; the Silver Wing from Lance), guide/08 q-0240 (Dark Cave shrine, Griseous Orb once).
The Battle Frontier and the Forest of Time. At Frontier Access, the man beside the damaged stone on the east side explains it was dug up during the Frontier’s construction and nothing could break it; after the final entry it leads to Jirachi (see the quest). In the Frontier Access Pokémon Center the psychic on the right now offers his memory battles. In the Forest of Time, if the S.S. Anne sank and you have both Shaymin and Celebi, lead with Celebi at the shrine and answer “I can’t watch innocents be killed”: Celebi takes you back to the ship to fight Archie, undoing the sinking.
Technical source (script files and flags)
guide/11 q-0330 (Frontier Access stone; ‘Before that, examining the stone only shows A hard stone’), q-0331 (the psychic: ‘Before that he just says he is still developing the power’), guide/09 q-0247 (after the final entry, both Shaymin and Celebi, only if the ship sank; Archie Lv. 43-45).
The Dream World. In the MooMoo Farm stable on Route 39, enter by the west door and examine the spot at the back wall: the energy warps you to the Dream World (the game does not actually check the Lunar Wing). Cresselia waits on the west side and Darkrai on the east side, both at Lv. 90, one chance each. The broken statue at the north end brings you back.
Technical source (script files and flags)
guide/09 q-0269 (after the final entry, once the postgame scene at home has sent you off to hunt legendary Pokémon; wild Lv. 90; leaving via the broken statue).
Quests in this chapter

Burned Tower: Prof. Hale, Molly and the three beasts (post-game; frees Entei, Suicune, Raikou)
Section titled “Burned Tower: Prof. Hale, Molly and the three beasts (post-game; frees Entei, Suicune, Raikou)”Needs the final Hall of Fame entry and Lance's visit. Do it before you rematch the Mt. Mortar expedition leader.
Where: Burned Tower basement, where the Sealing Mirror stood.
Who gets it / when: after your final Hall of Fame entry and Lance’s visit to your house (the scene where he gives you Team Rocket’s legendary items).
How it works: walk into the basement. Prof. Hale and Molly meet Entei, Raikou and Suicune, and all three run off.
Warning: come here before you talk to the Mt. Mortar expedition leader again after Lance’s visit. In that window he asks “Are you a really strong Trainer?” as if you’d never met. If you say Yes and beat him, this scene never plays, and Entei, Raikou and Suicune never appear. Answer No to be safe (suspected hack bug; known issue). Tested in an emulator.
Reward: this unlocks the three beasts’ post-game encounters: Entei in the Ruins of Alph dream room (Ruins of Alph: small extras), Suicune on Route 25 (Route 25: Suicune) and Raikou on Route 47 (Route 47: Raikou).
Technical source (script files and flags)
script file 23 (script 14, trigger on var 0x409f = 11, L4276–L6961; clears flags 1855, 2318, 2319, 2320; sets 0x409f = 12 at L6953; objects need flag 2317 clear), file 842 L2181 (clears 2317 after Lance’s visit; @2223 sets 0x409f = 11). Expedition leader: file 962 script 2 runs the first-meeting path unless 0x409f is 3, 5 or 10; a win over TrainerBattle 897 (L2706) leads to L3482 SetVar 0x409f, 3, so the trigger never fires (D-1406). Emulator CN and EN (guide review 2026-10-06, work/build/harness/guide-review-20261006/known-issues/F/): Yes and a win → var 3, no scene; No → var 11, scene plays.
Route 47: Raikou (after the final Hall of Fame)
Section titled “Route 47: Raikou (after the final Hall of Fame)”One chance: save first. Needs the Burned Tower scene. Raikou is Lv. 90. Do first: Burned Tower: Prof. Hale, Molly and the three beasts (post-game; frees Entei, Suicune, Raikou).
Where: Route 47, at the spot where Will’s device stood, in the north-west of the route.
Who gets it / when: after your final Hall of Fame entry and the Burned Tower scene where Prof. Hale and Molly free the three beasts (Burned Tower: Prof. Hale, Molly and the three beasts). Warning: that scene can be lost if you rematch the Mt. Mortar expedition leader first (known issue).
How it works: talk to Raikou. “Raikou is staring at you, wanting to challenge you. Battle Raikou?” → Yes: a wild Lv. 90 Raikou.
Reward: Raikou, if you catch it.
Notes: save first. Catching it, knocking it out or running away removes it for good (known issue). Only losing lets you try again: you white out, and Raikou stays.
Technical source (script files and flags)
script file 260 (script 17, L5082–L5116; CheckBattleWon @5089 is false only on a loss or draw, so a catch, knockout or flee sets flag 2320, which hides object 33), file 23 L6949 (Burned Tower clears 2320). Raikou ≈83,355.
Route 25: Suicune (post-game)
Section titled “Route 25: Suicune (post-game)”In Kanto, on Cerulean Cape. One chance: save first. Suicune is Lv. 90. Do first: Burned Tower: Prof. Hale, Molly and the three beasts (post-game; frees Entei, Suicune, Raikou).
Where: Cerulean Cape, south-east of Bill’s house (the Sea Cottage): about 15 steps south and 4 steps east of its door.
Who gets it / when: after the post-game Burned Tower scene where the three beasts run off (Radio Tower, Ecruteak City and Olivine City).
How it works: “Battle Suicune?” → Yes starts a wild battle against Suicune, Lv. 90. Losing whites you out, and you can retry. Knocking it out or running away removes it for good (running away tested in an emulator).
Technical source (script files and flags)
file 216 (script 40, L7548; a flee counts as a win and sets 2319; emulator, EN: Lv. 90, fled, gone after reloading). Suicune appears when the Burned Tower script (file 23) clears flag 2319. Position ≈1411,53; Sea Cottage door 1407,38.
Dance Theater → Bell Tower: catch Ho-Oh (after the final Hall of Fame)
Section titled “Dance Theater → Bell Tower: catch Ho-Oh (after the final Hall of Fame)”You need a free party slot and Morty's Clear Bell. Ho-Oh is Lv. 95.
Where: Dance Theater (Satsuki, the eldest Kimono Girl), Ecruteak Gym, Bell Tower roof.
Who gets it / when: after your final Hall of Fame entry.
How it works:
- Talk to Satsuki: “I want to see Ho-Oh”. She says Morty still has the Clear Bell.
- Talk to Morty in the Gym and agree to his challenge: a Single Battle against his full team (losing whites you out; retry). Win → Clear Bell.
- Talk to Satsuki again. The five sisters go to the Bell Tower.
- Climb to the roof: the Clear Bell ceremony summons Ho-Oh.
- Talk to Ho-Oh → Yes → battle Ho-Oh (Lv. 95; Sacred Fire, Sky Attack, Will-O-Wisp, Protect, Lum Berry) as a trainer-style battle (you can’t throw balls). Win → “Will you catch Ho-Oh…?” → Yes.
Reward: Ho-Oh, Lv. 95 joins your party. You need a free party slot (“Your party is full” otherwise; come back). If you say No, or lose, you can talk to it again.
Notes: Satsuki’s other option, “I want to see Lugia”, sends the sisters to the Whirl Islands for Lugia (Whirl Islands: catch Lugia). Once you’ve done both, she just thanks you. On Fridays after the Hall of Fame, Morty isn’t in the Gym: he and Eusine are on Bellchime Trail (photo with Morty; repeatable battle with Eusine).
Technical source (script files and flags)
script file 924 (L4299–L5610; menu 84–86; flag 265; sets 0x40a9 = 7 / 9), file 918 (L13817–L15482; trainer 715; Clear Bell item 474; sets 0x40a9 = 8), file 21 (script 7 L239–L1696; script 1 → L5969–L6288; trainer 88; GiveMon 250 Lv. 95; flag 1140), file 22 (L1023–L2617, flag 714), file 918 L477 (Friday flag 749).
Whirl Islands: catch Lugia (after the final Hall of Fame)
Section titled “Whirl Islands: catch Lugia (after the final Hall of Fame)”One chance: save first.
Where: Lugia’s cave at the bottom of the Whirl Islands (B3F, reached from B2F).
Who gets it / when: Lugia is first stolen during the League HQ’s round-4 story (League HQ: the Trainer Affairs Department’s investigations): Executive Lawrence uses the legendary birds to wake Lugia. You battle a Rocket pair, Lawrence and then Lugia itself, but he catches it anyway. That part is story. Lugia comes back for you after your final Hall of Fame entry.
How it works:
- In the Ecruteak Dance Theater, tell Satsuki “I want to see Lugia” (see Dance Theater → Bell Tower: catch Ho-Oh). The five Kimono Girls go to the Whirl Islands.
- In Lugia’s cave, talk to Satsuki and say Yes to starting the ritual. The Tidal Bell cutscene plays and Lugia appears.
- Talk to Lugia → Yes: a normal wild battle with Lugia, Lv. 95. You can throw balls.
Reward: Lugia, Lv. 95.
Notes:
- Warning: one chance. Save first. Catching it, knocking it out or running away all remove Lugia for good (known issue). Only a loss lets you retry: you white out and Lugia stays. You don’t need to carry the Tidal Bell.
- If you’ve already caught Ho-Oh but not Lugia, Satsuki’s first menu only offers “I want to see Lugia” and “Never mind”. Choosing Lugia there wrongly takes the Ho-Oh path (“the Clear Bell is still in Morty’s hands”). Talk to her again and choose Lugia from the full menu. (Suspected hack bug; it also re-arms the Ho-Oh chain, see the known issue.)
Technical source (script files and flags)
script file 104 (scripts 2, 6, 9; L1819–L4170; flags 579, 581, 265), file 103 (the B2F monk), file 924 L4998 (Satsuki’s menu; the two-item menu at L4915 leads to L4968, message 609#87, var 0x40A9 → 7). Final Hall of Fame = flag 2261.
Dark Cave: the Griseous Orb returns (after the final Hall of Fame entry)
Section titled “Dark Cave: the Griseous Orb returns (after the final Hall of Fame entry)”Collect it once.
Where: Dark Cave, the shrine in the deepest part, in the south-west of the cave (the Route 46 exit is at the far east end of that part).
Who gets it / when: after your final Hall of Fame entry. Earlier, in the story, Charon takes the Griseous Orb from this shrine.
How it works: the old woman by the Route 45 entrance says the Pokémon League sent the Griseous Orb back. Examine the shrine.
Reward: Griseous Orb (once).
Technical source (script files and flags)
script file 108 (script 8, L1190–L1299; flags 2261 (final Hall of Fame entry), 2337; L1232 old woman). Shrine ≈11,144; Route 46 exit ≈55,152.
Frontier Access: the damaged stone and Jirachi (after the final Hall of Fame)
Section titled “Frontier Access: the damaged stone and Jirachi (after the final Hall of Fame)”Where: Frontier Access (the plaza between the Route 40 gatehouse and the Battle Frontier gate). The stone stands on the east side, a few steps south-east of the Poké Mart, with a man next to it.
Who gets it / when: after your final Hall of Fame entry. Before that, examining the stone only shows “A hard stone. It has some obvious damage.” The man explains that it was dug up while the Frontier was being built and nothing could break it.
How it works:
- Examine the stone: “It looks like a Star Piece would fill in the broken part perfectly. Use a Star Piece to repair the stone?” → Yes. Each repair takes a Star Piece if you have one, but still counts if you have none (known issue).
- Keep choosing Yes. If you’ve finished the legendary investigation story (it ends in Cherrygrove City, when Crystal takes Suicune back to the orphanage), the stone wakes after 7 repairs (tested in an emulator). Warning: if that story isn’t finished, it needs more repairs, and waking Jirachi stops that story’s remaining scenes from playing. Finish it first (known issue).
- The stone turns into Jirachi. Two Team Rocket stragglers run in and try to make it grant their wish (a world ruled by Team Rocket). Nothing happens, and you fight them in a Double Battle: Grunts with Honchkrow 65, Weavile 64, Butterfree 63 and Gyarados 65, Rampardos 63, Gallade 64.
- Win, and they give up Team Rocket. The man asks you to give Jirachi a safe home. Talk to Jirachi → “Take it with you on your journey?” → Yes.
Reward: Jirachi, Lv. 5 (gift; you may nickname it).
Notes:
- If you lose the Double Battle you white out. The stone comes back, and the next repair wakes Jirachi and replays the scene.
- With a full party Jirachi won’t join (“Your party is full”). Make room and talk to it again.
Technical source (script files and flags)
script file 81 (script 10 L1134–L1160, L1588, L1801–L1870 TakeItem 91, AddVar 0x408c +1, >= 24; var 0x408c reaches 17 at file 847 L5336, its highest story value; the scene sets it to 23 before the battle and 25 after; L1985–L2886 scene, TrainerBattle 629, 630; script 11 L1176–L1290 GiveMon 385 Lv 5; script 1 man; flags 2261, 2350, 1384). Positions: stone ≈24,20; man ≈23,20.
Frontier Access Pokémon Center: the psychic’s memory battles (after the final Hall of Fame)
Section titled “Frontier Access Pokémon Center: the psychic’s memory battles (after the final Hall of Fame)”Where: the Frontier Access Pokémon Center, the psychic on the right, up from the entrance.
Who gets it / when: after your final Hall of Fame entry. Before that he just says he is still developing the power.
How it works: answer Yes, then choose Singles or Doubles (Doubles needs at least two Pokémon), then an opponent. There are three pages of opponents. Doubles is a Double Battle against the same team.
| Page | Opponents |
|---|---|
| 1 | Goh (Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Ho-Oh, Lugia, all Lv. 100), Joy (Lv. 90–95), Will, Karen, Proton, Petrel |
| 2 | Archie, Maxie, Lawrence, Marauder, Charon |
| 3 | Cyrus, Ariana, Archer, Giovanni (Viridian), Giovanni (Cerulean), Giovanni (Indigo), all Giovannis Lv. 100 |
Reward: none. It’s a rematch service for the story’s villains and rivals. It’s unlimited and has no daily limit.
Notes: losing whites you out.
Technical source (script files and flags)
script file 78 (script 6 L103–L1973; flag 2261; flag 311 = Singles; trainers 734, 733, 866, 867, 498, 487, 863, 864, 544, 865, 557, 558, 479, 503, 700, 288, 287). Psychic ≈12,12.

Forest of Time: Celebi takes you back to the S.S. Anne (post-game; only if the ship sank)
Section titled “Forest of Time: Celebi takes you back to the S.S. Anne (post-game; only if the ship sank)”Only if you failed to defuse the S.S. Anne bomb, and only with both Shaymin and Celebi. Archie's team is Lv. 43-45.
Continues S.S. Anne: defuse the bomb or the ship sinks.
Where: the Forest of Time shrine.
Who gets it / when: after your final Hall of Fame entry, after you have both Shaymin and Celebi, and only if you failed to defuse the S.S. Anne bomb (the ship sank).
How it works:
- If you’ve just received Celebi, leave through Ilex Forest and come back first: the shrine stays closed for the rest of that visit. Then lead with Celebi and examine the shrine. “Is there anything that happened that you want to change?” → “I can’t watch innocents be killed”. (“Better not to change history” does nothing, and you can ask again.)
- You wake up on the S.S. Anne, in the past. Archie is having the bomb fitted to the engine. Battle Archie (Walrein, Whiscash, Kingdra, Lv. 43–45).
- Win and he retreats. Celebi brings you back to Ilex Forest.
Reward: the sinking is undone. People in Violet, Olivine and Ecruteak who mourned the passengers now speak as if they were saved, and the S.S. Anne passenger and his granddaughter appear on Celadon Department Store 3F with their Max Revive (Celadon Department Store 3F: the S.S. Anne passenger’s thanks).
Notes: losing blacks you out, and you can try again.
Technical source (script files and flags)
script file 52 (script 6 L3336–L3940, L4006–L4959; trainer 177; clears flag 1093); final Hall of Fame = flag 2261; the S.S. Anne branch (L2596) sits behind the shared 2298 gate, which the Celebi gift sets at L3505. Shrine at ≈15,14.
Dream World: Cresselia and Darkrai (post-game)
Section titled “Dream World: Cresselia and Darkrai (post-game)”One chance each: save first. Cresselia and Darkrai are Lv. 90.
Where: the Dream World, reached from the MooMoo Farm stable (Route 39; MooMoo Farm).
Who gets it / when: after your final Hall of Fame entry, once the post-game scene at home has sent you off to hunt legendary Pokémon. That scene brings Cresselia and Darkrai back.
How it works:
- Enter the stable by its west door and walk straight ahead to the back wall. Examine the spot there: “The energy reacted to the Lunar Wing you’re carrying!” warps you to the Dream World. The game doesn’t actually check for the Lunar Wing.
- Cresselia waits on the west side and Darkrai on the east side. Talk to one → “Will you catch …?” → Yes → wild battle, Lv. 90.
- Leave through the broken statue at the north end with the Lunar Wing. The statue gives you one if you don’t have it.
Reward: Cresselia and Darkrai, one chance each.
Notes: a win or a catch removes it for good. If you lose, you white out and it stays. Answering No leaves it there.
Technical source (script files and flags)
script file 898 (scripts 6, 8, 9; L1763, L1823, L1859; flags 2290, 2291), file 251 (script 9, L1295, flag 2261 = final Hall of Fame), file 842 L2185–L2189 (clears 2290/2291). Positions: stable spot ≈7,2; Cresselia ≈20,16; Darkrai ≈75,16; statue ≈48,13.
